Carolyn Wonderland

Miss Understood (Bismeaux)

If Carolyn Wonderland's previous Bloodless Revolution promised she'd land on your doorstep one day, then Miss Understood is ringing the doorbell. Tossing Wonderland's prodigious talents into the mix with Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson as producer, Miss Understood is a mighty and joyous performance. As a youngster in 1980s Houston, Wonderlands' Imperial Monkeys won acclaim for her rock-injected blues, but Miss Understood announces her as a triple threat for singing, playing, and writing. Whether composing on her own ("Misunderstood"), teamed with co-writers Benson ("Walk On") and Eldridge Goins ("I Don't Want to Fall for You"), or cherry-picking tunes from Rick Derringer ("Still Alive and Well"), J.J. Cale ("Trouble in the City"), Bruce Robison ("Bad Girl Blues"), and the estimable Terri Hendrix ("I Found the Lions"), Carolyn Wonderland has stepped through the looking glass. (Saturday, March 15, Antone's, 12mid.)
