The Day I Realized I Might Not Make It (Has Anyone Ever Told You?)Chris Boehk's debut disc sounds like a lot of bands from the early 1990s. The current Beta Valentine drummer and former bassist for We Talked About Murder, finally out from under his Our Own Somewhere moniker, wears his influences on his sleeve throughout the 11 songs of The Day ..., and as solo performer and co-producer, with no one to rein him in, Boehk gets away with a lot. "My Nostalgia" cements his deadpan mumble in J Mascis' footprints, and "Song Title With the Word America in It" tramps the path of Pavement, but the theme here is nostalgia, and not just for grunge-era rock. The whole album simmers with those-were-the-days lyrical introspection and jangled power chords, and it works for most of the album, save the last song. Disappointment turned up really loud never goes out of style.
