On Come Hell or High Water, Jane Bond steps away from her blues chanteuse persona for a set of country-flavored duets with singer-songwriter Chad Tracy. No one will mistake this pairing for George Jones and Tammy Wynette, but the results are still highly listenable country rock. Tracy, who penned the majority of the tunes, possesses an eye and ear for traditional twang, writing of relationships and places he's been with rare self-confidence in a debut effort. The Tex-Mex flavored "The Border," sweetly shuffling "Right Time of the Night," and rambunctious title track all stand out, especially with the unshakable backing of fiddler Erik Hokkanen and Bradley Williams' accordion. Bond fans will appreciate weeper "In the Stars," her sole writing effort, which highlights her sexy vocals. Bond and Tracy make a good match, come what may.
