While his former Audioslave bandmates reunited with Zack de la Rocha at Coachella – see Chronicle Music blog Into the Void for Austin Powell's report – Chris Cornell proved he's still one badmotorfinger at Stubb's Sunday night. Opening with a 30-minute volley of Soundgarden's "Spoonman," "Outshined," and "Rusty Cage," Audioslave's "Be Yourself," "Original Fire," and Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike," Cornell stoked the sold-out crowd into a hand-waving frenzy and joked about weed several times. "That was just the sound check," he laughed, before howling for another hour. He excused his fourpiece band for an extended acoustic interlude where he covered Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" (and made more weed jokes), revisited 1997 solo hit "Can't Change Me," and let the crowd take over vocals for "Like a Stone," before sending all the stoners home happy with sprawling Badmotorfinger encore "Searching With My Good Eye Closed."
