Loud and Out of Tune (TKO)

This live CD/DVD combo from Austin's Lower Class Brats is about as close as you can get to an all-ages hardcore show circa 1987 without leaving your living room. While there's no substitute for seeing the Brats' keep it alive in person, the 17-song CD does a smashup job at capturing the band's ravenous performance pace and audience's fealty. The Clockwork Orange-addled quartet slams through fist-pumping favorites like "Airwave Raid," "Bite the Bullet," and "Just Like Clockwork" along with inspired covers of Mad Parade's "Sex and Violence" and the Misfits' "Bullet." Although the 2006 SoCal show on the CD was videotaped for the Brats' forthcoming documentary, This Is Real, the DVD contained herein is of a 2005 Seattle show. The sound is distorted and the vision grainy, but you'd need a gallon of sweat and several bruises to get better ambience. Just remember to put away family heirlooms before pushing play. (Friday, March 16, Emo's Jr., 12:30am)
