The Dicks

Hungry Butt (HotBox)

As a Reagan-era battalion, the Dicks and their "commie fag" frontman Gary Floyd assaulted ears and sensibilities. Hungry Butt, two shows from 1980 and 2005, violates those sweaty crevices. With Floyd on the mic, gruffer and older, Houston offers shambolic "Lifetime Problems" and a dedication of "Rich Daddy" to Biscuit. "Dicks Hate the Police" sweats with an itchy trigger finger as Floyd concludes, "That's really all the songs we have." Flashback to the 'dillo, May 1980, with the original lineup of Floyd, Glen Taylor, Buxf Parrott, and Pat Deason. "Kill From the Heart" sounds lethal, and "Wheelchair Epidemic" bakes under Taylor's Texas-sized distortion pedal. "Bookstore" is still the highlight: "It looks like every fuckin' piece of trash in town blew in." And then it ends with a "Fuck you, Austin." Who's hungry for more?
