Your Biggest Fan (Playlouder)
Local quintet Voxtrot has successfully completed the Beta Band trifecta, though their latest EP is more accurately described as an enhanced single whose brief beauty hinges primarily on the exuberant pop of the title track. Lyrically, singer Ramesh Srivastava achieves a sense of intimacy by relating his intensely personal emotions to the universal ineffability of musical experiences. In "Your Biggest Fan," which like "Raised by Wolves" and "Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives" before it syncopates staccato riffs on the guitar and piano, he declares, "I don't want to waste my time trying to strike the right lyrical density." Next, "Trouble" deals with a junkie friend buying his "record out on Cherry Red," and third and final track "Sway," a haunting acoustic ballad, vividly portrays the "language of loss" and "silence," further heightened by Jared Van Fleet's string arrangement. It's dense and utterly satisfying; meet your new biggest fan.
