The Cooties describe themselves as "hopelessly quirky," but that assessment is a bit harsh. The trio's rudimentary pop riffs burrow deep into the earwax on topical digressions like "Ball" and "Bee," and their helium-enhanced harmonies have a skewed late-night charm all their own. It might not yet be substantial enough to sustain an entire album, but efficacy is just a tweak or so away.
