Daniel Bull 1963-2004
Longtime Austin singer-songwriter Daniel Bull died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident June 13 in Asheville, N.C., where he had recently moved with his fiancée. He was 11 days short of his 41st birthday. A native of Alton, Ill., Bull, who overcame a number of maladies in his life including leukemia, diabetes, liver disease, and a tracheotomy was a talented magician and playwright; for a time he could be found working his sleight-of-hand while tending bar at the Carousel Lounge. He performed his one-man play, "Cancer, Lust, Vice, and Folly," at Ruta Maya World Headquarters in February. "The difference between Daniel and the struggling artist was that he wasn't, and I mean ever, into self-pity," said friend Karl Anderson. "At least not as an artistic self-expression."
