Belly

Sweet Ride: The Best of Belly (Rhino) The best band to ever come out of Rhode Island, Belly deserved much better than they got: two albums and also-ran in the alt.rock sweepstakes. Their hidden strength was always Tanya Donnelly's V.C. Andrews-derived lyrics (decapitated dolls, shaken babies, "screamers") on top of the band's incandescent rock; "Super-Connected," "Dusted," "Now They'll Sleep," "Slow Dog," and "Seal My Fate" all kill, as do the numerous A-list B-sides littering this Sweet Ride.
