Austin Aqua Festival '97

Doodle Bug the Clown loves me. I have the sticker to prove it. I stood in line just like the rest of the kids to get it. "You turned into a big 3-year-old, didn't you?" she asked. Well, as a matter of fact... I nearly stepped on a few during this year's Aqua Fest, not exactly the boon-doggle everyone makes it out to be. As Austin grows by leaps and bounds, tons of families, pre-teens, and UT students go to the annual fiesta on Auditorium Shores simply because they don't know they're not supposed to. The results? The Aqua Fest everyone always envisioned. And while music is no longer the sole focus, it's live entertainment has not sucked. Dale Watson on Saturday night certainly did not suck. That guy's a friggin' hero! Some say Jack Ingram is the same type (though a lot more Joe Ely, Robert Earl Keen), and that boy plays Friday night.

Remember too, that Friday night features fireworks, and that transportation is still being furnished by Cap Metro's free shuttles, which leave from Austin High School, Barton Creek Mall, and the State Lots at 14th & San Jacinto every 15 minutes on weeknights (6:30-11:30pm), and weekends (6:30-12:30pm). For those enjoying libations, American Yellow Cab is still giving free rides home, and for more info you can still check the Aqua fest website www//aquafest.com or call 472-5664.

Yep, it's just like the circus, and everybody loves the circus -- just like everybody loves a clown.
And I love Doodle Bug the Clown. -- Raoul Hernandez
