Zach Theatre's Kleberg Stage
1421 W. Riverside, 512/476-0594
In 1972, the 40-year-old Austin Civic Theatre renamed itself after film actor and Austin native son Zachary Scott and opened this playhouse on the southern shores of Lady Bird Lake. For 40 years, the 230-seat space in a thrust configuration served as the company's mainstage as it transitioned from a community theatre to a professional one with a growing national reputation. With the opening of the 430-seat Topfer Theatre in 2012, the Kleberg is primarily a space for the company's Theatre for Families productions, such as A Year With Frog and Toad and Goodnight, Moon.
Eric Carle classics – like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, 10 Little Rubber Ducks, and The Very Lonely Firefly – are brought to life by an array of faithfully recreated puppets. (ASL interpreted, sensory-friendly show on Sat., March 7.) Jan. 18-April 26. Fri., Jan. 24, 7pm; Saturdays & Sundays, 2pm. $19+.
