This miniaturized replica of an Elizabethan theatre – roughly one-third the size of the Globe Theatre in London – was built by Austin’s own computer-gaming legend Richard Garriott for his friends to present period-accurate productions of medieval and Renaissance-era drama. Seating 300 in two levels and one groundling level, this venue on the shores of Lake Austin is surprisingly intimate – no audience member is ever more than 25 feet from the action onstage. Currently home to The Baron’s Men theatre company and also used regularly by Austin Shakespeare.
The Baron’s Men present Shakespeare’s romantic comedy about grief, mistaken identity, and finding love, directed by Shannon Gibson. Through Oct. 21. Thu.-Sat., 8pm. $17-25.
