The Bee Grocery
1001 E. Sixth, 512/861-5002
Hours: Mon.-Sat., 7am-12mid; Sun., 8am-10pm
The helves are stocked with cereals, snacks, and packaged foods – an array of items that ranges from umbrellas and toilet paper to JuiceLand beverages, eggs, milk, and ice cream. Honey and skin care products from BeeWeaver Apiaries of Dripping Springs are expected soon. A small wine selection and an impressive walk-in beer cooler, as well as a full complement of freshly made coffee beverages, make this friendly, upscale neighborhood convenience store a keeper.
There's a little bit of everything here: coffee, beer, wine, grab-and-go sandwiches and salads, frozen custard, and rotisserie options (chicken, beef, pork porchetta, cauliflower) served with a variety of dipping sauces including jalapeno chimichurri, horseradish, and smoked paprika piri-piri.

East Coast oysters are plump and mild, and the tuna ceviche is bright from kabosu and ginger. A burrata panzanella is unorthodox but shows range. The Grilled Little Gem deconstructs Caesar salad, but is nowhere near as boring as that implies. Tangy Alabama fried green tomatoes shine in a greaseless crab cake "sammy."
