Everything from Chef Jesse Griffiths' unassuming hotspot is local, even the tea. Expect the choicest cuts of meat, just out of the water seafood, and barely harvested vegetables. The service is as adept as the kitchen.

Blue Dahlia Bistro

Visit this casual, cool spot for café au lait, a cheese plate and wine, or a luscious open-faced tartine. Tasty and beautifully presented sandwiches, salads, soups, coffees, desserts, and breakfasts round out the menu.

Contigo

A slice of the Hill Country near the Mueller development. Try the Dewberry Hills chicken or an individual skillet of rabbit and dumplings. Go early for brunch here, and try the beef tongue hash.

Elaine's Pork and Pie

This tiny snuggery seems like it jumped out of a postage stamp. There is pulled pork, and there are pies. But there is also a terrific lentil soup. Bourbon buttermilk pie and ancho chocolate brownies are standouts.
