Dougherty Arts Center
1110 Barton Springs Rd., 512/974-4000
Once the Naval and Marine Reserve
Center, this city-operated cultural facility
now educates budding artists instead of
sailors and hosts many cultural events.
Located on the periphery of the pending
arts complex development over and
around Palmer Auditorium, the DAC
features the Dougherty Arts Theater, a
150-seat auditorium that is available for
music, theatre, and dance productions, a
large sculpture/pottery studio, and dozens
of classrooms. City staff at the DAC also
books the Sheffield Hillside Theatre in
Zilker Park, across from the main
entrance of the Barton Springs pool.
The devolution of the Austin sky. Texas caves reimagined as intergalactic landscapes. The peculiar yet familiar renderings of Southern life. Behold, as artists Mae Crocker
, Renee Victor
, and Heidi Pitre
celebrate the beauty and quirks of this land we call home. Through June 8.
The Dougherty Arts School's adult arts program is dedicated to enriching the Austin community with hands-on artistic opportunities, provided skilled artists to teach a variety of classes in ceramics, digital arts, drawing and painting, darkroom photography, and more.
Welcome to Boxtopia, where adults are invited to dive in and build their dream castles, forts, playgrounds, and spaceships from hundreds of large recycled boxes. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the night! Wed., May 22, 7-9pm. Free.
