Staging Building the Wall Before Trump Builds His Wall
Robert Schenkkan races to get his latest work on stage
Arts Story  August 31, 2017, by Robert Faires
"...If we the people were going to accept such beyond-the-pale behavior, then what other moral standards that we'd held previously might we be willing to sacrifice down the line? Seeing "a fundamental attack on basic American values," as he told one interviewer, Schenkkan started writing, and wrote with the speed and intensity of a wildfire (hardly an account of the play's creation doesn't reference the "white-hot fury" in which it was penned). Within a week, Schenkkan had his play, Building the Wall, a compact two-hander set 1,000 days into the Trump administration..."

The Q&A Hole: Why Are So Many People Unhappy With President Trump?
Can’t American citizens cut that orange shitgibbon a little slack?
DAILY Chronolog  June 12, 2017, by Wayne Alan Brenner
"...Or maybe it's rape culture, kleptocracy, and savage idiocy that scare you most. Whatever it is, Trump embodies it so viscerally that I'm a little surprised it didn't top the White House list of achievements for his administration's first hundred days...."

Trump Budget Wants Congress to Rewrite Federal Immigration Law
But that budget? DOA. (We hope.)
News Story  June 1, 2017, by Michael King
"...The proposed Trump administration federal budget – described variously as "dead on arrival" or "dead before arrival" (and that's by Republicans) – has been roundly denounced, as it should be, for cutting basic social safety net programs and undermining public schools, while spiking military spending. But the draft features other Trumpian surprises – for example, buried in an appendix is a provision that would rewrite federal immigration law to tighten the screws on alleged "sanctuary cities." Attorney General Jeff Sessions has grudgingly acknowledged that Immigration and Customs Enforcement "detainer requests" are exactly that, and not binding on local jurisdictions – so the budget asks Congress to rewrite the law to require local law enforcement to comply with any requests issued by ICE, and to enable the Department of Justice to sanction (through funding denials) any jurisdiction that fails to comply with such "requests" (thereby making a mockery of the term itself)..."

A week of action kicked off Saturday
News Story  July 27, 2017, by Joseph Caterine
"...A coalition of housing advocates and organizations are taking part in a national week of action this week in protest of the Trump administration's proposed $6.8 billion in cuts to HUD programs nationwide. Austin stands to lose $18 million in funding as a result of the policy change, and it will affect more than just the low-income housing supply – $7 million in Community Development Block Grants, for example, which fund child care, youth programs, and senior services, will also disappear...."

More than half of The Donald's Department of Defense transition team have worked as executives or lobbyists

"...So let us consider Donnie Trump, who campaigned as the populist champion of the working class, promising that – by gollies – he was gonna take on Wall Street and the corporate elites. But the bitter irony for the working class is that they now see what the SOB meant – he's literally "taking on" the moneyed powers by taking them on board his administration..."

Point Austin: The Age of Trump
As D.C. moves backward, cities must lead forward
News Column  January 5, 2017, by Michael King
"...Yet as happened in this week's reversal of the Republican gutting of the Office of Congressional Ethics, broad public pressure and political embarrassment forced a retreat that even The Big Tweeter endorsed, describing the House move against the OCE as bad for the optics of his new administration. Similar divisions between partisan ambitions and presidential pandering are likely to emerge over the next several months – over taxes, over immigration, over health care, and so on – that local advocates and activists will need to identify and exploit wherever they occur...."

Tim Mahoney for Comptroller. Tim Mahoney for Trump?
Attorney, organizer enters statewide race
DAILY News  August 21, 2017, by Richard Whittaker
"...It does seem extremely unlikely that a liberal firebrand like Mahoney would be a Trumpkin.
