"...South by Southwest has completely taken over Austin, so naturally it has commandeered the Farmers Market Report as well!..."
"...For those of you who have been avidly reading and eagerly awaiting my Farmers Market Reports: you may have noticed that I am writing them the day before the market, instead of the day of (or the day after!)..."
"...They will also be bringing strawberries, which are still going strong for many area farmers, including Engel Farms and 2 Happy Children. I am told that 2 Happy Children will also have summer squash at the Cedar Park Market this Sunday. [image-1] I know the burning question of the moment that is causing acute anxiety for everyone is: Did the freeze in the Hill Country last week ruin the peach crop?!? Here at Farmers’ Market Report HQ the word is, things seem to be okay..."
"...Imagine my embarrassment when I walked into the Mueller Farmers’ Market last Sunday and saw that Dai Due was there, selling their awesome grub, when I had broadcast in last week’s Report that they weren’t doing Mueller anymore. It must have been a last minute decision..yeah...that’s the ticket. Anyway, Dai Due is back at Mueller on Sundays! (And at the Downtown SFC Market on Saturdays) Here is what they will be cooking up:..."
"...Sebastien was selling it so briskly last Saturday it was truly a sight to behold. I don’t know if you caught last week’s report, but Celtic Seafare is now sourcing their salmon from Loch Duart in Scotland, one of the most renowned salmon fisheries on the planet. [image-9] Last but not least, Austin Honey is selling honey in the comb for just a few short weeks..."
"...What makes a great market is the vendors, and the Mueller market vendors will include Confituras, Countryside Farms, Pure Luck Goat Cheese, Engel Farms, Hairston Creek Farm, Texas Hill Country Olive Company, Johnson's Backyard Garden, Winters Family Beef, Mill-King Dairy, Round Rock Honey, Green Gate Farm, Sweetish Hill Bakery, Cake and Spoon, Dos Lunas Artisan Cheese, RRR Farm, and McCall Creek Farm, and about 20 more!!! It is going to be huge! I will be there the second they open this week, but based on just the list of vendors, this Market will be a perfect alternative for folks who can't get to the Saturday markets for whatever reason. (Even I myself, the Farmers Market Reporter, occasionally go out of town, have a conflict, or a bad hangover.)..."
"...Pasta and Company has been selling as both SFC markets (Sunset Valley and Downtown) for years, but I never tried any before I started writing these reports. So, for the record: fresh pasta is really wonderful, especially fresh ravioli ! I recently bought fresh pecan pasta, which was rather odd with a traditional marinara, but was incredible with melted butter and freshly grated Parmesan Reggiano...."
"...Well, I will be the first to admit, there are some defects to the system of writing the Farmers Market Report the day before the market, and here is one of them: there was no lettuce at last weeks market, even thought there had been plenty the week before...."
"...However, Two Happy Children will have strawberries, kale, spinach, cabbage, carrot, brussels sprout greens, spring onions, and cauliflower. (I didn’t know you can eat brussels sprouts greens.) 2HC sells at Cedar Park and Barton Creek. [image-3] Engel Farms (Downtown, Hope, Cedar Park, Mueller, and Sunset) reports that by the end of the month they will have peaches! The earliest varieties are looking good, and fortunately that hailstorm we had here in town didn’t go over their orchards..."
"...When it comes to the sellers of prepared foods, some primarily use local ingredients, and some don’t. The ones who do, like Dai Due Butcher Shop, usually get more coverage in this Report than the ones who don’t..."
"...If this new market has a quarter of the vendors the Saturday Barton Creek Market enjoys, it will be spectacular. Next week I will report back with all the juicy details...."
"...So much news this week! After several weeks of not much happening, there is almost too much to report on...."
"...Dewberry Hills Farm will be at the Sunset Valley Market this Saturday; at least, that is the plan. [image-1] I tried to write this very politely in my Farmers' Market Report preview, but here I am going to spell it out: Now that the first freeze has killed the bugs, the lettuce is really looking spectacular. I mean, it is breathtaking..."
"...I will be visiting the Funkytonk Farmers Market on Anderson Lane (at the NATY) this Saturday, and will report back next week!..."
