Casey Affleck plays a spirit unstuck in time
Screens Story  July 13, 2017, by Sean L. Malin
"...Yet even the most ardent fans of Lowery and his filmmaker partners in Sailor Bear, Toby Halbrooks and James M. Johnston, may be surprised by elements of magical realism and quantum mechanics that turn this gem of a feature into a smoothie of Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Shane Carruth, and Lucrecia Martel, among others. Single Barrel Whiskey for the Right Price at Jack Allen's Kitchen
High-quality, approachable whiskeys to get you out of your comfort zone
Food Story  February 7, 2019, by Jessi Cape
"...Witnessing whiskey orders at a packed bar makes it pretty clear that in the almost 400 years since the beloved brown liquor landed on the official record, and despite countless variations to suit most palates, people choose their whiskey out of habit. Along with his team of fellow bourbon lovers, David Toby, beverage director of Jack Allen's Kitchen and Salt Traders Coastal Cooking, created a hand-selected single barrel whiskey program at their family of four JAK restaurants..."

Ron Howard presents us with Richard M. Nixon – the Christmas gift that keeps on giving.
Film Review  December 26, 2008, by Marjorie Baumgarten
"...Viewing their anguish as they witness Frost’s lackadaisical preparation and outright defeat during the first few interview sessions is almost like watching a comical Mutt & Jeff routine. Nixon has Jack Brennan (Bacon), a spit-shined and devoted military man who is his aide and protective right-hand man, and Swifty Lazar (Toby Jones), the Hollywood agent who brokered the deal on Nixon’s behalf..."

Tristram Shandy: A Cock & Bull Story
Tristram Shandy’s inspired, breakneck madness provides a good forum for Michael Winterbottom’s chief talent: the illumination of human nature, with all its messes and occasional marvels.
Film Review  March 24, 2006, by Kimberley Jones
"...candidates – 1759 novel, previously believed to be unfilmable. Called a “postmodern classic before there was any modern,” Sterne’s chronologically wacked novel charts the accident-riddled conception, birth, and circumcision of nobleman Tristram Shandy, with detours that include Shandy’s Uncle Toby and his battle-injured groin..."

Hot Takes
What to drink with the fieriest salsas at the AC Hot Sauce Festival
Food Story  August 18, 2016, by Brandon Watson
"...Ultimately Austin Amber won out because the toasted sweetness of the malts in the beer carried through and really complemented the hot sauce. Also, the balancing hop notes and crisp finish of Austin Amber wash away the burn of the Yellowbird hot sauce." [page] David Toby – Beverage Manager, Jack Allen's Kitchen..."

'We Had a Tragedy Here in Austin'
City Manager dispells dark rumors surrounding David Rivas Morales's beating death this week.
DAILY News  June 21, 2007, by Wells Dunbar
"...City Council began their meeting on a somber note today, with City Manager Toby Futrell attempting to clarify some of the "misinformation and miscommunication" regarding the beating death of David Rivas Morales on June 19 this week, casting a ominous cloud on the evening's Juneteenth events. While doing so "in no way to minimize the incident that did occur," Futrell sought to put "all the information in perspective." Citing unnamed, national news reports sensationalizing the incident, she dispelled some of the more inflammatory and racist rumors: that it had occurred as part of the evening's Juneteenth festivities (in fact, it was in an isolated parking lot), reports of 500 onlookers with none intervening (Futrell said there were only some 10 to 20 people outside, most prior to the incident, not egging on the beating), and reports of up to 20 assailants (she put the number at three to four). Mike Martinez and Sheryl Cole thanked the African-American and Latino – League of United Latin American Citizens, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and others – community groups that got ahead of the incident, working to minimize any racial tensions which might arise..."

The Thrilla in the Tortilla
Food Column  November 25, 2015, by Brandon Watson
"...Of course, I also enlisted some of my favorite chefs, whose refined palates continue to inform my own – Roaring Fork chef Adrian Giovanelli, Jack Allen's Kitchen chef/owner Jack Gilmore, Launderette executive chef Rene Ortiz, Hopdoddy Burger Bar chef/co-founder Larry Perdido, and Odd Duck pastry chef Susana Querejazu. And because breakfast tacos are perhaps the best hangover cure ever devised, I thought Hops & Grain Brewery founder Josh Hare and Jack Allen's Kitchen beverage manager David Toby would have an informed opinion..."

According to his sworn deposition, APD Detective David New believes that in the fall of 2003, Knee and Futrell may have indirectly or even intentionally alerted Bonding and Technical Services Inc..."

Astro Boy
This American-bred Astro Boy remains true to the heart and soul of the Japanese original but lacks its raw animation and emotions.
