Food Food Food Fest

Your color-coded guide to the best festival eating

By Brandon Watson, November 6, 2015, Food

Making your mind up about what to eat at Fun Fun Fun Fest can be really hard. With music and comedy from noon 'til well past sunset, you'll need a little help. That's why we are here to help you out. All you have to do is pick your favorite (stage) color, and we'll take care of the rest.

Orange

The Orange stage hosts an eclectic mix of artists ranging from Nineties shoegazers Ride to the only good part of Sister Act 2, Lauryn Hill. And like the stage, our global menu appeals to all your different tastes at once. Cazamance offers a contemporary take on African cuisine, Chi'Lantro does the same for Korean. You'll be caught in the groove during Golden Dawn Arkestra's set, so you'll need hand-held food like doner kebabs from Kebabalicious or tacos from El Chilito. Oh, and to stay hydrated through sets by Chvrches and Alvvays, there's no better place than, ahem, JviceLand.

Blue

With a mix of hip-hop and electronic acts, the Blue stage is all about moving your body. But before you hear your first air horn, you are going to need some serious fuel. The grilled sandwiches from Burro Cheese Kitchen will get you through Peaches, and old-school-obsessed SLAB BBQ is the obvious pairing for Wu-Tang. East Side King's seminal street food deserves to be enjoyed with seminal Bronx DJ Afrika Bambaataa, and Cold Ones' paletas will cool you down after shaking it to Big Freedia. We also recommend you choose the Mighty Bird over the funky chicken.

Black

All that screaming and grinding coming from the punk-oriented Black stage deserves equally tough food choices. The vegan treats from Skull & Cakebones are an obvious choice as is anything from the Black Sheep Lodge. But what goes better with Wright Bros. Brew & Brew than Fucked Up? And everyone knows that nothing goes better with hardcore (like D.C.'s Dag Nasty) than (Austin's) Pizza.

Yellow

Filled with motivational speeches from Andrew W.K. and stand-up sets from Tig Notaro, the Yellow stage is perfect for FFFFers who enjoy a little wordplay, whether that be Mmmpanadas' delicious empanadas, Bananarchy's punk bananas, or NadaMoo's vegan ice cream. And come on, what fits the Air Sex World Championships better than a little Frank?
