More tacos, less Thai food
Thai food lovers will be disappointed to learn that Pisit "Gene" Kobboon has lost his lease and will have to close Thai Passion (620 Congress) at the end of this month. "The landlord wants to turn this into offices. I've been getting lots of phone calls and emails from my unhappy customers all month," he told us this week. Kobbon will continue to operate his second outlet (9300 S. I-35 Ste. 140-A) at Southpark Meadows and is actively scouting locations for a new Downtown spot.
Entrepreneur Tiffany Larson recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the $20,000 she needs to realize her local food truck dream of creating the Lolli Trolley – a mobile candy shop stocked with You + Me Candy, a wide assortment of lollipops, and retro goodies such as Zots, Necco Wafers, and Big Hunks. Larson has already secured a spot in this year's Trail of Lights festival in December and needs the investment to purchase, outfit, and stock her truck.
Elaine's Pork & Pie (2113 Manor Rd.) has added some new menu items along with happy hour specials and later hours. Enjoy happy hour Tuesday through Sunday from 3-6pm with bargains on wine, beer, and light cocktails such as bellinis, mimosas, and lemosas. The shop will now stay open until 9:30pm Tuesday through Thursday as well as Sunday, and until 10pm on Friday and Saturday.
