Austin Bakers Are Challenged To Help Fight Hunger

Austin's food artisans are always willing to support worthy causes with their time and talents, and helping to put an end to hunger among America's children certainly qualifies. Share Our Strength has issued a challenge to bakers nationwide to hold bake sales to benefit their No Kid Hungry campaign during the Great American Bake Sale National Challenge weekend, April 20-22. "Each individual and group participating in the National Challenge Weekend will bring us closer to ending childhood hunger in America," said bake sale director Amy Crowell.

Bake sales are a simple and enduring American fundraising tradition, and Austin groups have generously raised money for victims of Central Texas wildfires and the tsunami in Japan, so rising to the No Kid Hungry challenge should be right up their alley. Professionals, cottage food producers, and passionate amateurs are all encouraged to participate. The goal is for 500 bake sales to be held across the country on the challenge weekend, but the program runs through the end of the year.
