If you've seen A Christmas Story, you know all about the pleasures of dining at a Chinese restaurant on Christmas Day. But there are other festive options as well.

Hotels and Restaurants

The Four Seasons will offer a special holiday buffet from 11am to 8pm in TRIO, and from 11am to 6pm in the ballroom foyer, Champagne included. Reservations are a must. 98 San Jacinto, 685-8300. TRIO seating: $75 for adults, $20 for children ages 6-11; ballroom seating: $68 for adults, $20 for children ages 6-11.

The Driskill Hotel offers its usual lavish mezzanine brunch with seatings from 10am to 3pm. Downstairs, the 1886 Cafe will be open all day, serving brunch until 5pm. Mezzanine brunch: $65 per person, $32.50 for children ages 6-12, free for children 5 and younger. 604 Brazos, 391-7162 for reservations.

The Renaissance Austin Hotel's Banderas – A Texas Bistro is changing up the Christmas Day program with a four-course plated dinner for $28.95 per person, from 11:30am to 2pm and from 5:30 to 9pm. 9721 Arboretum Blvd., 795-6100 for reservations.

Hyatt Regency Austin You'll find a Christmas buffet in the Southwest Bistro where you can count on flowing mimosas from 11:30am to 3:30pm. Select antipasti, salads, and desserts from a lavish buffet, and enjoy a plated entree in between. 208 Barton Springs Rd., 480-2035 for reservations. $36 for adults, $13 for children ages 5-12.

Green Pastures Restaurant is already fully booked for this annual Christmas Day brunch, but waitlist spots are still available. 11am-2pm. 811 W. Live Oak, 444-4747. $60 for adults, $30 for children ages 5-12.

El Arroyo The extensive menu at this longtime Austin favorite offers everything from breakfast tacos to late-night entrées, and best of all, they're open on Christmas! 2-10pm. 1624 W. Fifth, 474-1222.

Threadgill's It's first come, first served for a limited menu at both locations from 10am to 9:30pm. 6416 N. Lamar, 451-5440; 301 W. Riverside, 472-9304.

Manny's Uptown Kitchen When you have to nosh, this is the place to do it. The Breakfast Bundle is served all day and allows for latkes and eggs, as well as pancakes. We defy you to find better pancakes in Austin. You'll also find a good lox platter, made even better by fresh bagels. 8am-10pm. 9503 Research #650, 794-0088.

B.D. Riley's Irish Pub Irish music, excellent pub grub, and 20-ounce imperial pints make this a great place to watch sports ... or to enjoy a full turkey dinner on Christmas Day. 11am-12mid. 204 E. Sixth, 494-1335.


Kobe Japanese Steakhouse See your holiday repast prepared tableside here, with a full dinner menu available all day. 11am-9pm. 13492 Hwy. 183 N. #380, 288-7333.

Din Ho Chinese BBQ will be open for what some say is the best roast duck in town, in addition to the usual favorites. 11am-10pm. 8557 Research #116, 832-8788.

Dragon Gate by Phoenix This meticulous sushi spot will be open from 5 to 9:30pm on Christmas Day. 3801 Capital of TX Hwy. N. Ste. J-180, 732-7278.

First Chinese B-B-Q always serves up its generous Cantonese-style specialties on holidays. 11am-9:30pm. 10901 N. Lamar #401, 835-8889.

Hunan Lion Put some spice in your holiday with curried shrimp. 11:30am-10pm. 4006 S. Lamar, 447-3388.

Peony Asian Cuisine Regulars and newcomers alike will appreciate the rich miso soup on a cold holiday. 10:30am-2:30pm, 4:30-9:30pm. 5308 Balcones, 459-3341.

And for Xmas Dining À La Cart ...

Chinatown Catch the dim sum cart as it glides by like Santa's sleigh full of surprises from 11am-2:30pm. Reser­vations are a must this year. 3407 Greystone, 343-9307.

Shanghai Chinese Restaurant will be serving dim sum: 11am-3pm. 6718 Middle Fiskville, 458-8088.
