6) BAKERY/COFFEEHOUSE: Flipnotics Coffeespace Enjoy baked goods, sandwiches, and friendly service on the terraced decks out back, which won the 2009 "Best of Austin" Critics Pick for Best Outdoor Seating. 1601 Barton Springs Rd., 480-8646. $

6) DESSERTS, ICE CREAM/SNO-CONE: Yum Yum Frozen Yogurt A convenient stop on the way to and from Zilker Park and Barton Springs Pool, this place rotates eight tart and sweet flavors every week and offers an array of toppings to spice things up. 1601 Barton Springs Rd., 782-8492. $

7) BARBECUE, BREW AND FOOD: Uncle Billy's Brew & Que The barbecue sauce is outstanding on tender sausage and ribs. After a day at Zilker Park, enjoy great service and cold, house-brewed beers on tap. 1530 Barton Springs Rd., 476-0100. $

8) ITALIAN: Romeo's is the place for familiar, Americanized Italian food in a fun, romantically retro dining room. Choose from rich pastas, a low-carb menu, and pizzas, and don't forget about the full bar and weekend brunches. 1500 Barton Springs Rd., 476-1090. $$

9) BARBECUE: Green Mesquite One of Austin's favorite barbecue dives – it may look seedy, but the menu is extensive, and the food is terrific. 1400 Barton Springs Rd., 479-0485. $$

10) BURGER JOINT: P. Terry's Burger Stand Here you'll find burgers fashioned from hormone- and antibiotic-free Black Angus beef, Buddy's grilled chicken, fresh-cut fries, and milkshakes. Sit at a picnic table on the patio. Dogs get a free biscuit. 404 S. Lamar, 473-2217. $

11) BAKERY/COFFEEHOUSE: Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Enjoy sandwiches, pastries, and free wi-fi at this Zilker-area coffeehouse. 221 S. Lamar, 351-8680. $

12) ICE CREAM/SNO-CONE: GoodPop Manuel and Laura Flores were inspired by the fresh fruit paletas they enjoyed as children to make these all-natural, organic frozen pops. We recommend the watermelon agave, as it's a 2010 "Best of Austin" Critics Pick. 1003 Barton Springs Rd., 539-0182. $

13) BURGER JOINT: Sandy's Hamburgers They say the corn dogs and fries are the tastiest in South Austin, and others say the burgers are the best buy in town. We're mostly interested in the frozen custard, malts, and soft-serve. 603 Barton Springs Rd., 478-6322. $

14) SOUTHERN/DOWN-HOME: Threadgill's World HQ is just a shout away from the former Armadillo World Headquarters. The menu is packed with solid home-cooking options, and there's a brunch buffet on Sundays. 301 W. Riverside, 472-9304. $$

15) AMERICAN CAFE: Zax Restaurant & Bar Find American bistro cuisine here: fluffy crab cakes, classic Caesar salads, and meaty burgers with bleu cheese. Try the make-your-own Bloody Mary at brunch. 312 Barton Springs Rd., 481-0100. $$

16) PUB GRUB: Aussie's Grill & Beachbar In addition to great appetizers and pub fare, Aussie's offers big-screen TVs and beach volleyball courts out back. 306 Barton Springs Rd., 480-0952. $

17) JAPANESE: Uchi The sushi ranges from fresh scallops, tuna, and seafood to negitoro rolls, seaweed, and chicken salad, and all are highly rated. Reservations recommended. 801 S. Lamar, 916-4808. $$$$

18) INTERIOR MEXICAN: Sazón With a grade of "A" for the chile relleno, you should feel adventurous to try the rest of the menu. For fans of dishes made with the corn fungus huitlacoche, this place is a must. 1816 S. Lamar, 326-4395. $$

19) DELIVERY, PIZZA: Austin's Pizza This local upstart takes aim at the big delivery chains by offering pizzas – with gourmet ingredients and good crust – for practically a steal. 1817 S. Lamar, 795-8888. $$

20) BREW AND FOOD, GLUTEN-FREE: Barley Swine This tiny gastro-pub offers small plates of skillfully prepared seasonal and local foods. Long waits are typical. 2024 S. Lamar, 394-8150. $$

21) BAKERY/COFFEEHOUSE, WINE BAR: Opa! A canopy of trees protects this dog-friendly open space. Play bocce ball, Ping-Pong, or just relax and enjoy Greek treats such as spinach pie and moussaka. 2050 S. Lamar, 326-8742. $

22) AMERICAN CAFE: Olivia Enjoy excellent American regional cuisine based on what's fresh from local farmers and ranchers, paired with a full bar. For dessert, try the duck egg creme caramel with ginger-pear crisp. 2043 S. Lamar, 804-2700. $$$

23) BREW AND FOOD, PUB GRUB: Black Sheep Lodge has everything from sliders to carnitas, and TVs abound. So do the beer choices, with 20 on tap and more than 50 by the bottle. Try the portobello cheesesteak if you have room after the cheese curds and fried pickles. 2108 S. Lamar, 707-2744. $$

24) AMERICAN CAFE, LATE NIGHT: Kerbey Lane Cafe Offering a famously fabulous breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this place is a favorite of the late-night set. The queso is pretty darn awesome, too. 2700 S. Lamar, 445-4451. $$
