SXSW: Austin Dining From Yawn Till Dawn

By Mick Vann, March 11, 2011, Food

24 HOURS:

Magnolia Cafe

1920 S. Congress, 2304 Lake Austin Blvd. A stalwart of the ATX late-dining scene, with all of the munchie bases covered and servers with snap.

Kerbey Lane Cafe

3704 Kerbey Lane; 2700 S. Lamar; 2606 Guadalupe; 12602 Research; 4301 William Cannon The place that started it all, with local, fresh produce. Full menu covering all of the cravings, even for vegans. Reasonable prices and reliable service.

24 Diner

600 N. Lamar A diner with chef-inspired comfort food and quasi-typical diner fare, all made from great ingredients.

Star Seeds Cafe

3101 N. I-35 The little diner with attitude; step out of line, and you'll know about it. Reliably delish comfort food at great prices.

Epoch Coffee

221 W. North Loop An offspring of Mojo's, Epoch carries East Side Pies pizza slices and Upper Crust Bakery pastries, and gosh darn it, sometimes you really want a steaming bowl of oatmeal when you're toasted.

Mrs. Johnson's Bakery

4909 Airport (starts cooking at 8:40pm) For decades, every ATX stoner has had wet dreams about these right-out-of-the-grease doughnuts, still dripping with glazed sugar and too hot to touch. They melt in your mouth.

Bennu Coffee

2001 E. MLK Bennu not only has superb coffee, but it carries all sorts of goodies from some of Austin's best spots.

La Mexicana Bakery

1924 S. First Mexican sweets, pastries, and savories too. ¡Muy sabrosa!

Ken's Donuts

2820 Guadalupe. Cash only; ATM available. Donuts or doughnuts, Ken's has them round the clock, along with an 81-cent cup of coffee.
