More local frozen yogurt, the city's Restaurant Recyclers, gluten-free in Mama Fu's Asian House, more East Austin trailer dining, and other foodie news

Turns out we missed three stops on our local natural tart frozen yogurt odyssey earlier this summer. The two newest entries are Yo So Cool (1201 Barbara Jordan Blvd. #1290, 748-3648,, a local independent shop in the Mueller shopping center, and Menchie's (4001 N. Lamar #550, 452-9866,, a chain outlet near the original Central Market. Both stores offer natural, sugar-free, and fun flavors of yogurt in the soft-serve, sold-by-the-ounce format. We also omitted Austin's last remaining TCBY (303 W. MLK, 320-8229), a campus-area mainstay for nearly 20 years. The traditional scoop shop offers many flavors of ice-cream-like frozen yogurt in your choice of cups, waffle cones, sundaes, banana splits, shakes, and smoothies, and it has recently added a few soft-serve machines specifically for natural tart frozen yogurt, as well... Kudos to Jimmy Mitchell for the Green Business Award recently presented to his company by the Austin Business Journal. Mitchell's Restaurant Recyclers (466-0575, helps area restaurants recycle cardboard, tin, and glass and compost food waste... In keeping with the current trend toward customizing menus for guests with food allergies, locally owned Pan-Asian chain Mama Fu's Asian House (multiple locations, has developed several gluten-free menu items to make restaurant dining more accessible for celiac sufferers. Most entrées can be made with its new gluten-free sauce, and Mama Fu's also offers gluten-free appetizers, sides, salads, and kids' entrées. National chain P.F. Chang's China Bistro (201 San Jacinto, 457-8300; 10114 Jollyville, 231-0208; has incorporated a substantial number of gluten-free items into its regular menu, as well... The East Austin Trailer Park and Eatery, or E.A.T. (2324 E. Cesar Chavez), includes some new vendors. Look for vegetarian and vegan cuisine at Iggi's Texatarian, very smoky barbecue and burgers at the Old School BBQ & Grill, and wash it all down with coffee drinks from Phoebe's Mud... The retail store at Fête Accompli (917 W. 12th, 480-8787, will be closed for summer vacation Aug. 2-15, but a small crew will maintain its booth at the Downtown Farmers' Market as well as catering obligations. When the store reopens, it will be serving breakfast on weekdays from 8 to 11am and lunch from 11am to 4pm... Check out the Tuesday menu specials at M Two (208 W. Fourth, 478-7222,, where you can get about $35 worth of food for $10 on Tuesday from 7 to 9pm... Chefs Ned and Jodi Elliott at Foreign & Domestic (401 E. 53rd, 459-1010, have added a daily Blue Hour (Tuesdays-Fridays, 5-6:30pm; Saturdays, 5-6:30pm and 9-10:30pm) with specially priced menu items and drinks to enjoy on the way home from work... Business partners Rickey Jones, Homer Hill, and Donnie Little welcomed a capacity crowd of local luminaries and former University of Texas athletes to the VIP opening party of their 11th Street Station Restaurant & Bar (1050 E. 11th #100, last week. The new Southern cuisine eatery opens this week in the space formerly occupied by Ms. B's.
