• The outdoor stage at Stubb's (801 Red River, 480-8341) becomes a venue for Texas celebrity chefs when the restaurant/music venue hosts the Bad to the Bone Chef Smackdown to benefit the Sustain­able Food Center. Chefs David Bull of Bolla at the Stoneleigh Hotel in Dallas, Paul Petersen of Rick's Chophouse in McKinney, and Shawn Cirkiel of parkside here in Austin will create original dishes based on secret ingredients during televised cooking demonstrations. Tasting samples will be distributed to the crowd, and the contest winner will be determined by a panel of local judges and popular vote from the crowd via text message. A concert from Charanga Cakewalk will follow. Tickets are $35 at www.stubbsaustin.com. Friday, Jan. 15, 6-9:30pm.

• Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at a community pie social at the historic Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church (1725 W. 11th, 472-3621). See "Peace Through Pie" for complete details. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2-4pm.

• Make necessary reservations for healthy living "noncooking" classes to be presented by chef Virginia Morgan of Borboleta Cafe at Casa de Luz (1701 Toomey, Cielo room upstairs). $115 until Jan. 18, $125 Jan. 19-24. Reservations: 828-7404. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1:30-5:30pm.

Alamo Drafthouse chefs John Bullington and Elijah Horgan square off against parkside chef/owner Shawn Cirkiel in the Alamo Iron Chef Battle Round VI at the Alamo Ritz (320 E. Sixth). The secret ingredient for this battle will be Elia Kazan's classic film A Streetcar Named Desire. Diners will sample four courses with wine pairings and decide whose cuisine reigns supreme. Proceeds benefit 6ixth Street Austin. Tickets are $80 at www.originalalamo.com. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 7pm.
