• Don't forget the Food Network's open casting call for contestants for the reality cooking competition series The Next Food Network Star at the Hyatt (208 Barton Springs Rd.). Friday, July 17, 10am-4pm.

• The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas hosts Wine at Its Peak, a wine dinner at Mirabelle (8127 Mesa, 356-7900) to benefit the fifth annual TexSom Sommelier Conference coming up later this year. Five local chefs will create courses to be paired with five mature wines presented by three accomplished local sommeliers. Cost is $85 for foundation members, $95 for the public. Crú – A Wine Bar (11410 Century Oaks Terrace #104, 339-9463, www.cruawinebar.com) presents a five-course menu created by chef Patrick Taylor to be paired with the portfolio of organic wines from Turnbull Wine Cellars of Napa Valley.
