Cook Globally, Grow Locally

Green Corn Project's 10th Annual Fall Festival

Cook Globally, Grow Locally

Boggy Creek Farm, 3414 Lyons Rd.
Sunday, Oct. 26, noon-4pm

Local gardening nonprofit Green Corn Project celebrates 10 years of installing organic home vegetable gardens for low-income and disabled Austinites this year. Every fall, the all-volunteer organization holds a benefit on the grounds of Boggy Creek Farm to generate the cash to fund a year's worth of garden installations.

The comfortable, bucolic setting at Austin's historic urban farm makes this one of the most relaxed and family-friendly tasting parties of the entire year. Some of Austin's most creative chefs and caterers serve up dishes based on the bounty of the fall harvest, while others share recipes and cooking demonstrations from a stage set up on the back porch of the farmhouse. Guests can nosh while perusing tables of enticing silent-auction items and enjoy live music provided by Chris Brecht, the Lonesome Heroes, the Melancholy Ramblers, and Tina Marsh. All in all, it makes for a fun and flavorful afternoon for a very good cause.

In years past, the fall festival was organized by longtime Green Corn volunteer Denise Salles Kirschenlohr. After Kirschenlohr's untimely death in July, her friend and local chef/restaurateur Lisa Fox took over the organizational duties and promises a stellar event that will be dedicated to Kirschenlohr. Advance tickets are $35, available at Boggy Creek Farm, Natural Gardener, Wheatsville Co-op, the Great Outdoors, and online at www.greencornproject.org. Tickets will be $40 at the gate, and the party goes on, rain or shine.
