• The annual Oktoberfest celebration at North by Northwest Restau­rant & Brew­ery (10010 Capital of TX Hwy. N., 467-6969) will benefit Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas (www.bcrc.org), Central Texas Dachshund Rescue (www.ctdr.org), and Therapy Pet Pals of Texas (www.therapypetpals.org). Enjoy German food, plenty of craft-brewed beer, live music, artist booths, a bratwurst-eating contest ($10 entry fee), a dog costume contest, and plenty of activities for kids. $2 admission. • The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium (815 W. 47th, 454-7468) invites beer lovers to its first Fall Brew Festival at the Triangle Park. Look for five beer tents in the park stocked with craft brews specially chosen for the occasion by Flying Saucer beer guru Keith Schlabs. There will be German food for sale, as well as live music and a disc-golf tournament. Admission is free. A $15 ticket entitles guests to a commemorative glass and a punch card for sampling 10 of the featured beers. More info at www.beerknurd.com. Saturday, Oct. 4, noon-10pm.

• The Austin chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier International invites you to its annual scholarship benefit, Eat, Drink, Experience! – an evening of fabulous food and wine on the campus of the Texas Culinary Academy (11400 Burnet Rd.). The evening will include a silent auction, as well as a cooking class. Tickets are $75, available online at www.ldeiaustin.org. Saturday, Oct. 4, 7pm.

• Are you interested in creating a food-manufacturing business in Austin but have no idea how to get started? Here's a seminar designed with you in mind.
