A Food Writer's Favorites From ACL Fest
Back and forth between the concerts and food court
My food and music highlights:
• Light, delicious, and nourishing ice-cold soups from Zoot. I think the corn chowder was my favorite, but all three were excellent. Cold soup, people!
• The refreshing drizzle that fell as Crowded House sang "Weather With You," a moment impossible to plan or replicate.
• Word on the Street's fresh pineapple with vanilla-bean-sake syrup was one of the best dishes at the park. Too bad people didn't get it.
• Doing the punta to Belize's Andy Palacio & the Garifuna Collective. If you missed this show, I'm sad for you.
• Chuck and Larry's (aka Moonshine's) pulled-pork Cuban sandwich with mango mojo and pickles. My 16-year-old nephew insisted we have it the next day, too.
• The raw, rocking power of Queens of the Stone Age, immediately followed by Gotan Project's fabulous blend of trance and tango. Wow!
• Frozen açaí topped with granola and sliced bananas from Sambazon, a delectable treat that's good for you!
• Five-hundred-plus people jumping around and singing along with Aterciopelados. This band's positive energy and message truly deserve a much bigger stage.
• Roy's sweet and spicy Mongolian ribs and grilled shrimp with wasabi cocktail sauce, perfect for sharing as a snack.
• Indigo Girls doing "Midnight Train to Georgia" and Devotchka's take on "Venus in Furs." Best versions I've ever heard.
• Sweet Leaf's new peach lemonade and cherry limeade. Take note, Tito's fans!
• If Preservation Hall Jazz Band doing "When the Saints Go Marching In" didn't make you cry, check your pulse. You're probably dead.
• Arcade Fire, please come back!
