FunkFest II (www.funkybatz.com) at La Zona Rosa is a two-day event based on the organizer's love for funk, blues, and soul music and food. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Meals on Wheels and More. Saturday will feature Louisiana music and the Taste of Louisiana Gumbo Cookoff, wherein participating restaurants including Hoover's Cooking, Louisiana Longhorn Cafe, Gene's Poboys & Deli, Sambet's Cajun & Fiery Foods, Nubian Queen Lo-La's Cajun Soulfood Kitchen, Uncle Boudreaux's, Cypress Grill, and Orgeron's will bring their gumbo and other signature dishes for tasting. There will also be vendors selling iced tea, lemonade, various jerk dishes, and Amy's Ice Creams. On Sunday, major sponsor Hoover's Cooking will offer the Tastes of Texas Soul Foods to the strains of blues and soul music, and the other food and drink vendors will be on hand, as well; $5 cover at the door each day. Saturday, July 28, 11am-3pm, and Sunday, July 29, 1-4pm.
