Stone House Vineyard (24350 Haynie Flat Rd. in Spicewood, 512/264-3630) hosts an Italian Evening Wine and Dinner with a menu designed by guest chefs Ed Parsons and Dorothy Taylor, paired with wines from Australia. Musical entertainment by guitarist David Sherry; $70 (inclusive), reservations necessary; Friday, March 23, 7pm.

Faraday's Kitchen Store (1501 RR 620 N., 266-5666) presents a free Knife Clinic and Knife Skills class with Messermeister representative Ethan Hamme, who will answer all questions regarding the proper handling, usage, and care of fine cutlery – everything from how to hold and use knives correctly to how to best maintain an edge. The demonstrations are free, but it is necessary to sign up for the hands-on portion of the class; 10am-2pm, Saturday, March 24.

Hudson's on the Bend (3509 RR 620 N., 266-1369) chef Robert Rhoades and wine director Phillip Dubov invite you to enjoy a multicourse dinner paired with the distinctive Russian River and Sonoma Coast Pinot Noirs of winemaker Merry Edwards. Cost is $160 (exclusive of tax and gratuity), seating is limited, and reservations are necessary; Monday, March 26, 7:30pm.

Ciola's Italian-American Restaurant (1310 RR 620 S., 263-9936) and Gina DellaVadola of the Folio Wine Company host a five-course dinner paired with Tuscan wines from Frescobaldi, Ornellaia, and Attems. Cost is $65, seating is limited, and reservations are necessary; Wednesday, March 28, 7pm.

Neighbors at the Hyde Park corner of 43rd and Duval are pitching in to help their friends at Mother's Cafe & Garden with a Mother's Day benefit, and they could use your help. Invite your mothers and everyone else you know to shop or dine out for Mother's at Fresh Plus, Pronto Mart, Hyde Park Bar & Grill, Asti Trattoria (with a vegetarian menu that night), Julio's Cafe, Quack's on 43rd, and Dolce Vita, and they'll donate a percentage of that day's proceeds to the out-of-work staff of Mother's; Monday, March 26.

Support the Kozmetsky Center for Child Protection (www.centerforchildprotection.org) by attending a Big Red Reserve Wine & Food Tasting at Doña Emilia's South American Bar & Grill (101 San Jacinto, 478-2520) featuring appetizers designed to pair with six big red wines from Chile and Argentina.
