Drop by the north Central Market (4001 N. Lamar, 206-1000) this evening for a celebration of Día de los Muertos under the stars on the upstairs deck. View the authentic altar and enjoy live music from Cienfuegos plus Mexican beers, cheeses, and appetizers. Tickets are $55 at the Cooking School (458-3068); 6-8:30pm, Thursday, Nov. 2.

Asian food fans will want to check out the Asia Food Fest sponsored by the Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce (www.txasianchamber.org), the Texas Culinary Academy (11400 Burnet Rd., 837-2665, www.tca.edu), and Satay restaurant (3202 Anderson Ln., 467-6731) this weekend. Activities will include cooking demonstrations on everything from sushi to dumplings to barbecue and dim sum taught by local and international chefs; food- and wine-tasting events at Satay, Ventana, GrapeVine Market, and other restaurants and an Iron Chef-style cooking contest with teams of professional chefs supported by culinary students competing before a panel of local celebrity judges. Flora and Fauna (904 W. 12th, 480-0414) will host a wine and chocolate tasting featuring pinot noir and champagne paired with handmade delicacies from the Fat Turkey Chocolate Co. Guests can view works by selected artists and craftsmen, enjoy live music provided by Clay Jeffrey, sample Passion Cafe exotic flavored coffees, or chow down on a plate of prime rib from Texas Pitchfork Fondue ($8 per plate).
