Tea Embassy (900 Rio Grande, 330-9991) proprietor Carol Sims extends an invitation to an interactive seminar on the Basics of Tea, including the art of making tea, tea history and characteristics, and a tea tasting paired with fresh scones. $50, reservations required; 1-4pm, Saturday afternoon, Sept. 30.

Baking and pastry students of the Texas Culinary Academy (11400 Burnet Rd., 837-2665) will collaborate with local songstress Suzi Stern and the Austin Girls' Choir to present Women Who Cook 2006 – Deliziosi Dolci. The evening will include a silent auction plus a selection of delicious Italian desserts prepared by the student chefs, accompanied by the musical performances of Stern and the young ladies of the chorus. Call 259-8353 to purchase the $35 tickets in advance; 5:30-8:30pm, Saturday, Sept. 30.

Austin mainstay the Waterloo Icehouse (www.waterlooice commemorates 30 years of good burgers and live local music with the 30 Bands in 30 Days celebration benefiting the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. Cory Morrow, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Ray Benson are only a few of the popular local artists slated to appear, as well as have their own signature HAAM-burgers on the menu during the monthlong promotion. Five dollars from each signature burger combo sold during the month plus 20% of sales during each of the 30 anniversary shows will be donated to HAAM. Check the Waterloo Web site or your favorite Waterloo location for a complete calendar of artists, times, and locations throughout the month of October.

Communities in Schools (464-9701) holds its 11th annual Food for Thought tasting event at the Omni Downtown Austin (Eighth & Brazos) with fabulous food from 27 of Austin's finest restaurants and an eclectic silent auction. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased in advance by going to or at the door; 6-9pm, Thursday, Oct. 5.
