September 15-21

The owners of Austin's four Tres Amígos Cafe & Cantina (www.tresamigos.com) outlets are celebrating 30 years in business with some special offers. During the month of September, all desserts are half price, and kids under 12 eat free on Monday and Tuesday nights. They are also throwing a series of parties at the various locations for longtime customers and former employees over the next two weeks. Feliz cumpleaños, amigos, now through the end of September.

Aloha! Disability Assistance of Central Texas (834-1827, www.dact.org) invites Austinites to a big Luau at the Dell Jewish Community Center (7300 Hart Ln.). A fabulous luau buffet will be presented by Gourmet Gals & Guys Catering and Events in partnership with the Texas Culinary Academy in a festive island atmosphere designed by Events and Parties. Enter the hula contest, enjoy cocktails at the tiki bar, and get the jump on holiday shopping at the silent auction, featuring items from many area businesses. Tickets are $45 and are available by phone or at the door; 7-10pm, Saturday, Sept. 16.

The longstanding partnership between the local restaurant community and AIDS Services of Austin continues in the coming week with the annual Dining for Life fundraiser. Check out the ad on p.77 for a list of more than 60 area restaurants that will donate 15% of their dinner proceeds to ASA from Monday, Sept. 18, or Tuesday, Sept. 19. Please dine out to help local restaurants support a valuable community asset.

Hannibal Lector probably won't show, but you will learn fascinating things about fall gardening over some fava beans and a nice Chianti at the upcoming Gardening Workshop at Eastside Cafe (2113 Manor Rd., 476-5858); $39 per person, and reservations are necessary.
