Worthwhile Investments

If you or your company are searching for worthy nonprofit organizations for end-of-the-year charitable donations, consider both the Sustainable Food Center (236-0074, www.main.org/sfc/) and the Capital Area Food Bank (8201 S. Congress Ave., 282-2111). SFC's new FOODSHARES program allows you to target your philanthropy to "Make Room at the Table" for individuals and communities in Central Texas. Funds raised in this program support SFC's socially responsive portfolio of programs, goods, and services that work to improve the health of children and families, to enhance our capacity for growing food, and to improve the economic health of farm families. Contact SFC for a brochure with complete details. With more than 30,000 Austin kids identified as possibly going without a hot meal most evenings, CAFB is always looking for individuals, businesses, or foundations willing to sponsor a Kid's Cafe hot dinner program. CAFB deputy director Dan Pruett is always eager to give tours of existing sites and explain what it takes to underwrite a Kid's Cafe. Food security for everyone in Austin would be a wonderful holiday gift and a worthwhile investment all year long.
