SPAMTASTIC™ SPAMARAMA™

Austin's Quintessential Silly Bar Party

By Jason Stout

4. May 4, 1987

Held under the oaks behind Terry Boothe's South Austin joint, The Red Pig (now Magnolia Cafe South), the ninth annual SPAMARAMA™ was covered by an ABC news crew from Los Angeles. Former Clarksville Cafe chef (and current Chronicle food writer) Mick Vann took first place in the professional taste division with SPAMSTICKERS™, a version of the extremely popular potsticker appetizer at the West Austin eatery where he worked. "They really didn't taste all that different from the ones we served at the Cafe, actually," Vann admits in retrospect.
