Restaurants You Shouldn't Miss
IntroductionHere you are in Austin for SXSW: You've secured your lodgings (hotel, motel, the couch of a friend); checked and rechecked the show listings against a map of the venues to finalize your nightly plan of attack; you're keeping an ear tuned to gossip on the street about the best daytime and afterhours private parties, and now all that's left to do is figure out where to eat. You know from experience (or legend) that everyone goes to Güero's for Mexican food and celebrity watching, that breakfast at Las Manitas is a time-honored SXSW ritual, and the Magnolia Cafes are jammin' 24-7. The Chronicle food staff agrees that you can't go wrong at those places, but we've come up with some other suggestions to broaden your Austin dining experience. Our "Second Helpings" columns this week will cover everything from legendary barbecue joints to reliable vegetarian restaurants on a daily basis. To further guide you along the path to culinary gratification, we've also prepared this list of truly Austin-tatious restaurants you just shouldn't miss. Grab a bite at some of these places and take your friends; create some SXSW traditions of your own.
