Why Owen Wilson?

RECEIVED Wed., April 12, 2023

Dear Editor,
I would like to comment on your use of Owen Wilson on the cover. ["Owen Wilson and the Joy of Paint," Culture, April 7] Why does this insanely rich white man need any more publicity? There are so many other important current events going on in “Austin” that we could feature on the cover. Trans rights are being stripped away, drag queens are under attack, children aren’t going to be allowed to say “gay” in school, gun control is still something that is unimportant, small businesses are closing down, tech world is ruining Austin and pushing out the elderly and low income locals.
And yet, Owen Wilson is in the spotlight? How is this ok? How much money did you guys make from that? Is that why? Is the Chronicle going to go under too because of the issues I listed above? Do y’all have to promote the elite to make ends meet?
I have two children that attend public schools here in Austin. I am fully invested in this city and the changes I have seen over the past 30 years sicken me. No one cares about the environment and it shows. The rich control everything. Maybe Owen Wilson could help?
Thanks for your time,
Nora Wilcoxson
