Renounce the GOP

RECEIVED Sat., Feb. 27, 2021

Dear Editor,
It is my hope that the suffering ends soon for the residents of Texas. I pose this question, “What if Trump had won the election and the state of Texas had filed a lawsuit trying to overturn Trump’s election, do you think Trump would be providing relief like President Biden or seeking revenge?”
Make no mistake this was a man-made disaster. Why has no one asked this question: What if the non-winterized production units had been brought on-line prior to the onset of the cold weather? I think they would have continued to run through the cold weather.
While I do not have any training in operating electrical production, I know that production needs to equal demand. Is it possible that this disaster could have been avoided by innovative management of production assets?
While Texas is a strong proponent of state’s rights, your governor wasted no time in seeking a disaster declaration for federal funds to correct a Texas made disaster. It is evident that belief in state’s rights does not include the right to fail.
I will soon renounce my affiliation with the Republican Party. Rick Perry says that Texans would go without power rather than have federal oversight. Is that how you feel? Does Mr. Perry have a generator at his house? Do you trust a politician willing to throw his young daughters under the bus to save his political career? In all fairness, Ted had to, he couldn’t blame the dog who got left at home.
If any of this makes sense to you, please consider renouncing your affiliation with the Republican Party. While I am not proud of the people that we Iowans have representing us in Washington, I am offended by all of the butt kissing going on just to preserve their seats in Washington.
