Duel of the Dual

RECEIVED Thu., June 25, 2020

Dear Editor,
So proud to be casting my vote for Sarah Eckhardt for State Senate next week - because we desperately need people who have actual experience responding to COVID-19 and the economic devastation it has wrought.
No one who will serve in the Legislature next year has that experience. The only people that do are leaders like Judge Lina Hidalgo and Judge Clay Jenkins. Think about it.
I want someone who can speak to this disaster and what we need to do to live through it. No amount of Eddie Rodriguez's lobby money or campaign checks he's received from Gov. Abbott's former chief of staff convinces me that there will be more COVID tests available in Eastern Travis County. Sure - you can get craft beer delivered, but ... you know priorities!
But the story is always the same for working women. If you're good at your job - they want you to train your manager and never leave. If you're good at your job, and want to be the manager - people complain that you're letting everyone down by leaving. It's sexist. It's stupid. And in this case, Rodriguez's campaign seems to be using Gov. Abbott's own talking points blaming local government for the COVID-19 spike. Not only is it not true - it speaks to the kind of ambition and self dealing that cripples substantive, progressive change in the Texas Legislature.
The Chronicle made a dual endorsement - so, in my mind, they were half right. Be all the way right and vote for Sarah Eckhardt for State Senate!
