My Dear Editor,
Good article by Mary Tuma about the federal gag rule on health care providers. ("Abortion Gag Rule Could Jeopardize Local Care
," News, June 8). Usually I stop reading her articles as soon as I encounter the phrase "anti-choice"; that being absent, I think this might be the only one I made it all the way through.
Abortion opponents ought to stop to consider this: Because their efforts wind up dismantling women's access to family planning and health care in general, that ultimately results in more
abortions (legal or not), not fewer. In essence, abortion opponents wind up throwing the baby out with the bathwater. (Perhaps a poor choice of words.)
