Homophobic Dog Whistles

Daniel Bradford here. Longtime reader, first-time letter writer.
In following some trails on the internet regarding CodeNEXT, I came across this bit about CM Jimmy Flannigan’s defense of this rewrite (see Fred McGhee’s Twitter account). In it, McGhee calls CM Flannigan a liar (“mendaciously mouthing off”) and associates that behavior with being a “dais diva.” As a relatively old out-and-proud vampire, I’ve grown accustomed to this kind of tired-ass dog whistling, irritating as it is. Usually, it comes from realms that don’t merit the attention calling them on their BS will bring to their message. But Fred McGhee continues to enjoy a level of local credibility among some of Austin’s political elite, and he’s definitely a major force behind Community Not Commodity. So I just can’t bring myself to ignore it, especially during this holy month of Pride. WTF?
