Dear Editor,
    In response to the letter from Pat Elliott Sr. (R-Brenham) regarding Confederate veterans and the Civil War ["Mayor Is Wrong," Feedback, Nov. 17], the only revisionist history I saw was labeling Treason in Defense of Slavery as "the war between the states.” Confederate apologists have gotten away with that kind of crap for too long, including calling it "the war of northern aggression." Mr. Elliott can keep his revisionist history and his Listeria-infected ice cream back in Brenham where it belongs.

    Late reply regarding the cover for Oct. 27, but better late than never! I love your paper and always pick up several copies for my friends at work but upon seeing this poor and inappropriate choice of a cover I did not bother. How dare you choose this after the horrible incident in Las Vegas. The cover came across to me as if you were glorifying the “white male mass shooter,” really? I think the cover was a very poor choice and hope for the future you don’t get me boiling again!

    Re: Michael King's column [“Point Austin: What to Do About CodeNEXT,” News, Nov. 17], it's time to put King out to pasture. His unwarranted and baseless personal attack on Robin Rather is just the most recent in a long litany of slanderous rants against smart people with whom he disagrees. He doesn't do his homework. He doesn't report objectively. It's all about him. He is a discredit to your publication.

    Responding to Michael King's column [“Point Austin: What to Do About CodeNEXT,” News, Nov. 17]:
    Is CodeNEXT the worst thing to happen to Austin? King points to floods and the tower shooting and Jim Crow which were all awful. And perhaps he's right it is hard to compare calamities as each is terrible in its own way.
    But CodeNEXT affects every district, every neighborhood, and every person in Austin now and well into the next generation. For the 70% of the city that makes less than $100K per year it will speed up the devastating gentrification and widespread displacement already happening. It is hardest on people of color and in areas where economic insecurity is deepest.
    Austin is more than one big ATM machine. People here want solutions that protect existing residents from being just swept away. CodeNEXT is based on failed Smart Growth policies that have done more harm than good. And it isn't going down without a fight.
