It's Also a Fire Trap

RECEIVED Mon., June 19, 2017

Dear Editor,
Concerning "Book Review: The Broken Spoke: Austin's Legendary Honky-Tonk" [Music, June 16]:
I hope Miss Miller makes note of the fact that Mr. White has made enough money to keep the Broken Spoke open all these decades without making any significant upgrades to the structure and facilities. The Spoke continues to have insufficient and nasty-smelling restrooms. It's also a fire trap waiting to become one of Austin's worst catastrophic events.
If James White can afford the overhead on South Congress, he should be responsibly using some of his revenue to provide a safe and clean building.
Valerie Siref
[Editor's note: The Broken Spoke is located on South Lamar.]
