Dear Editor, On Sept. 22 a PUD application for the Grove at Shoal Creek will go before City Council and the mayor. As is, this proposal is embarrassingly inadequate on every level: atrocious traffic mitigation, bare minimum parkland, a 2-star rating on Austin Energy's Green Building Program, huge amounts of retail and bars that are incompatible with existing neighborhoods, and no on-site rainwater detention. In exchange for this substandard development, ARG is asking the city for PUD status which will give them extensive development bonuses. We have ONE chance to get this right. What the city chooses to do now will affect development in Austin in the very near future when two other large tracts of state land go up for sale near Hyde Park and Tarrytown. Until the PUD proposal is truly superior, it is critical that Austin City Council VOTE NO to the Grove PUD as is.
