Stop the Hate Virus

RECEIVED Wed., Dec. 9, 2015

Dear Editor,
Regarding the article from Dec. 6 about two Muslim women being harassed at Kerbey Lane [“Breakfast With Bigots,” News]; I feel compelled to write in hopes that you could forward my letter of apology to both Sirat Al-Nahi and Leilah Abdennabi, apologizing for the uneducated hostile Americans who have been infected with a virus spread by misguided and dangerous fools like Donald Trump giving fuel to hate and fear in this country.
Being an older woman and a Jew I am especially reminded of how this behavior smacks of Nazi Germany.
I keep replaying the scenario described about the incident at Kerbey Lane in my mind, wondering how I would have dealt with it had I been there and why no one spoke in the girls’ defense. It’s because most of those patrons feared they’d be shot – by the Islamophobic guy, not by two young women wearing hijabs.
How many mass shootings have been committed by white males in the U.S. this year alone? I’ve lost count! It has become a daily atrocity.
I suggest we stop spreading fear and hate, but if there is a type to profile and be afraid of it’s small-minded hateful men like the guy with the big mouth at Kerbey Lane. Frighteningly, this country seems to have a lot of them.
