Fighting Injustice

RECEIVED Tue., Dec. 16, 2014

Dear Editor,
At last, an investigative reporter who writes about the actions of lawmakers and state agencies and the dire effects they have had on citizens. Mary Tuma's December 12 story about families' efforts to keep their loved ones at the Austin State Supported Living Center was excellent [“Guardians Sue DADS,” News]. Good for the families who have filed lawsuits against Texas Health and Human Services and its Department of Aging and Disability Services. The proposed eviction of their disabled loved ones from the living center has caused them anguish and despair. They are fighting the injustice the commission would do to severely and profoundly mentally disabled individuals. The public should know about this and a developer's successful effort to rezone his land bordering on the center property, which he covets.
Thank you, Ms. Tuma, for exposing the machinations of the bureaucracy and how it hurts the people it purports to serve.
