Dear Editor,
I was appalled to read that UT will slash funding for the community institution, the Texas Memorial Museum [“
UT to Slash Memorial Museum Funding,” News, Nov. 15]. I hope that current staff will consider creating a public advisory committee to explore new revenue and grant options, as well as fundraising possibilities (perhaps a 75th anniversary gala?). In addition, I hope the museum will expand their current docent program to include unpaid student interns from the College of Natural Sciences and create a public volunteer program to offset budget cuts. As an educator, parent, and former UT student, I have spent countless hours at the Texas Memorial Museum and consider it a treasure.
